This advanced course builds upon content in the 4th and 5th grade lessons to teach middle school-aged youth (Grades 6-8) in-depth knowledge about bicycling and how to safely “drive a bike”.  This course covers the reasons we ride bikes and the history of bikes as well as basic bike maintenance, how to plan a safe bike route, and how to safely navigate streets and intersections.  Content includes suggestions for skills practice, how to maintain a bike, best practices for approaching intersections, California vehicle laws, hazards to be aware of while riding in the streets, and recommendations for being visible, predictable and communicating while sharing the road.
